I saw this on Hot’s blog and thought I would take a swing at it. I haven’t really done anything like this yet, so I hope I don’t scare you all off too much. )

#1-I currently have turquoise hair. I didn’t intentionally color it turquoise. It just kind of happened. I went to the hair salon to have my hair done (foiled blonde in, with two blue streaks in my bangs). When I washed my hair a few days later the blue bled onto the blonde and well…you now know the rest. It actually looks pretty cool. Maybe one day soon I’ll post a pic. Before I turn the blue to red and have a cotton candy head, rofl!

#2-My husband checks out other womens racks and I’m okay with that. The way I see it is, he’s a man, men check out women whether we want them to or not. I’m not going to make him hide it. I have even gone as far as to say “Whoa! Check out her boobs they’re friggin’ huge!”

#3-My house must have a cat in it at all times. I have had a cat my whole life. I cannot stand the feel of a house without a cat in it. Two is even better. If the house is without a cat, I will spend every waking moment looking for one that needs a home. House. Must. Have. Cat.

#4-One day, almost three years ago, my hubby brought home this computer game. Not just any computer game, and online multi-player game. Playing with real people online. I rolled my eyes and walked away as he installed it. Fifteen minutes later I walk back into the room and start watching him play it. I have been hooked ever since. Hello, my name is Lela, and I play World of Warcraft.

#5-I have tattoos. Not body consuming tattoos. Just 4 small ones. The first is some undescribable thing I thought was cool, placed precariously on my upper (inner) left thigh. Number 2 is the Kanji symbol for love on my upper right arm. Third is a tribal hummingbird on my right ankle and the last one is a turquoise shooting star on my left wrist.

#6-I am Cherokee and darn proud of it. And I raise my kids to be proud of it as well.

#7-Only twice have I ever been so drunk that I was sick the next day. On my 21st birthday. And recently on my trip to Oklahoma (where we drove an extra 2 hours away from our hotel to visit the Cherokee museum and re-constructed Cherokee village-very cool). I still however, love Key Lime Martini’s.

#8-I learned to read when I was two. Or so my mom claims. I will admit that I have been reading as long as I can remember, and I love to read. Especially historical stuff.

Okay, well I bored you with 8 random facts about me. Eight that I could think of anyhoo.

When my daughter hit the <strike>oh so crappily dramatic and demanding</strike> lovely stage of “Terrible Two’s” she coined the phrase “I don’t want it”. Which was her way of saying “No!”. I was (and still am I may add) very thankful for this phrase. If I had to hear “No!” screamed at me hundreds of times a day I would have lost my mind a lot sooner. And since today <strike>I have a headache and it’s making me cranky</strike> I am feeling very in tune with that phrase it is my title. I am also going to follow Hotfessional’s (I love her she’s great!) line of blogging and blog about whatever hits the fan as I am typing. And let’s face it. Some days you just need to babble.

____________________________________________________________________

I love email. I hate talking to people on the phone. I have to make two phone calls today and I don’t want it. One of them is to a gal I have been trying to get in contact with since the end of July. She is a customer to my PC lady and didn’t want her hostess special. Well I did, so I bought it. Since it shipped to her, she has it. I have tried emailing her, but she doesn’t return my emails. She called me once while I was in Oklahoma in August, left me a message that she wanted to get together the next day and give me my item. Um, yeah, that’s gonna happen. Washington<—>Oklahoma. I’ll be right there.

Another one is someone who got my number from Girl Scouts. She has some questions about letterboxing. Why Girl Scouts has me down as the letterboxing guru, I’m not really sure. Yes, I did help with the letterboxing at day camp this summer. But it’s not my specialty. I’m a geocacher. Gee-oh-cash-rrrrrr. While similar to letterboxing, still not the same thing. *sigh*

So I leave messages. Messages with my email address clearly spelled out so as they don’t miss the hint that they should email me. I like that. It’s not so much work to sound all perky and cheery.

___________________________________________________________________________

Let’s move on people. Super Mario Brothers. Again, I don’t want it. My 6 year old loves Super Mario Brothers. I think they should burn in hell. Why you ask? If my son is not playing it on the Nintendo, he’s playing it on the computer. Yes, the computer. I know. My ever loving husband downloaded the original Mario Brothers games (along with some others) to the kids computer. So now, if someone is watching the TV, you get to hear the dun-dun-dun-dundundundun-duna-dundun-dundundun-dunduna from upstairs. Same thing if one of his siblings is on the computer, you hear mario on the TV downstairs. Woot for the office being in the loft above the living room. But that’s not all. No we are NOT done. He has the songs, all the mario songs, memorized. You get the ambiance of the underwater worlds in the car. Mario plagues me 24/7. I think I have actually grounded him from singing the songs just to keep my eyes from crossing and my ears from bleeding.

_______________________________________________________________________

I love my cats. They are the best cats evah. One of these days I’ll <strike>get off my lazy butt</strike> quit blogging long enough to flickr some pics of them for you. I have two torticali’s. Or however that is supposed to be spelled. One is grey with medium fur that is sooooo soft you could just snuggle her forever. The other is black with long fur that carries in a piece of everywhere she has roamed outside to share with the rest of the family. I think the dog (menace to society #1) would love to just hold her down and give her a good sniff physical, but he is scared of her.

Oh the dog, God love the dog. The “I’m a black lab that thinks he only weighs the same as the cats and is the same size so hold me like a baby I want to love you” dog. I swear this dog has springs in his hind end. He can jump straight up in the air and hit my husband (who is 6’5″) in the face with his nose. I have never seen a goofier dog. I keep telling myself, only 1 more year till he calms down. We’ll see if he lives that long.

________________________________________________________________________

I will spare you anymore torture of my incessant rambling. One day I will actually get to the post I meant to write 3 days ago about my daughters birthday party. The birthday that is in November. Close to Thanksgiving. I should probably write about Halloween first. No way I’ll be able to top The Queen and her naked soul though. I still have the giggles from that. I need to go get some pull-ups for my sleeps-like-a-rock sons. Nothing like sleeping in a warm, snug fitting puddle of pee to make you comfy. On that note, I am going to leave you with this.

I have had it. I am at my breaking point. The so-called “math curriculum” called Everyday Math is the <strike>suckiest piece of crap</strike> worst program I have ever seen! I am currently (started today, lol) doing research for an article I intend to send to every newspaper across the country that will print it. If your child is exposed to this torture on a daily basis and you have an opinion about it that you don’t mind me quoting you on I want to hear it!

I feel so bad for my poor daughter who gets so frustrated trying to understand her homework she is in tears and it takes 2 hours. 2 FREAKING HOURS!!!! For 1 piece of paper! I have been complaining about this program for over a year now, trying to decide what kind of action I can take, and rallying supporters. My action is to expose this trash they are teaching our children to the public. If the school districts won’t listen to us as a single unit, maybe they will listen with a little public humiliation!

I had another post all prepared for today but a more important topic came up. I read about this over at IzzyMom first. I will include the links that she did as well. The fact that some people with big mouths or big influence think that breastfeeding is obscene is obscene in itself. They think that breastfeeding mothers should not be doing this in public. I’m sorry, are they supposed to stay locked in a cage at home till they wean their child? They are mothers for crying out loud!!! We already have a kazillion things to do, all at the same time I might add, now we have to deal with morons like this?

*Clears throat* “Excuse me, would all morons please line up to apply for the job of “Mom” to see exactly what it is like. Oh yeah, we’re gonna stick a kid to your boob ever 2-4 hours for 20 minutes. You still need to finish everything on your to-do list while doing this. Good Luck.”

Apparently Facebook(read more here) and Myspace are jumping on the bandwagon calling pictures of mothers breastfeeding obscene! WTF? I have seen more obscene profile pics of people on these sites! They are pulling pictures of mothers breastfeeding off peoples profiles. And in some cases shutting down their account without notice and refusing to reinstate it. Saying that the pictures went against their “terms”.

The fact that they have deemed breastfeeding, something that is healthy for both mother and baby “obscene” is just ridiculous. But to top it off, they allow pro-anorexia groups, and don’t deem them “obscene”. Oh yeah sure, nurturing a baby in public, totally heinous. Girls and women starving themselves and puking their guts out? Let’s slap that all over the place. According to David Wescott there are currently 350 pro-anorexia groups on Facebook. Why is it that Facebook wants to support unhealthy lifestyles yet ban the healthy ones?

Mojo of a Mama has a great post on this topic. It is a must read, including the comments. These are some ladies that have their heads on straight. The fact is, that American society has sexualized womens breasts so much that people (other than mothers) cannot see them as anything other than sexual. When in fact they were meant for breastfeeding!

Pundit Mom really says it! “The message that’s being sent is clear and it’s not a good one — breasts in their natural state must not be seen in public, but breasts for entertainment, especially “enhanced” ones — AWESOME!”.

We want our daughters to grow up with good self esteem and for our sons to respect women but how can they when all around them are messages such as this? That women in their natural form are not to be respected? They need to be tweaked and silicone to be worth anything? If society has it’s way we are all going to end up on some WT talk show crying our eyes out about why our pre-teen daughters are such disrespectful hoochies. Eugh.

I’m gonna head on over to Facebook and post all these links on my page. I may even dig up some pictures just to irk them off. It may not be very progressive, but it will make me feel better!

Dear Mayor of Seattle (whoever you are, I’d look it up, but to be honest, I don’t want to),

I am not going to start out with any polite openings or political statements. There will be no sugar coating, pillow fluffing or boo-boo kissing. I’m going to rip the band aid off. This letter will go on to explain why I think driving in your city just plain sucks!

I am not sure who designed the layout of your one way, unlabeled, criss crossing, narrow streets. But whoever he was, is/was dumber than a rock. In my opinion Seattle should be completely demoslished (a satisfying explosion will do), steam rolled and re-designed. I have lived in cities surrounding Seattle for the last 20 years (before I could even drive) and have better luck maneuvering cities that I have never visited before, than I do Seattle.

Everytime I come to your crappily laid out city, I get lost. I’m not driving blind either. This includes map in hand and directions! How is one supposed to turn onto 5th Avenue when there is no sign stating 5th Avenue? Are you trying to save money by not labeling the streets on every corner? Or perhaps this is some conspiracy? Get people lost, they will need to stop for gas, therefore contributing to the income of your city? Thanks, but I’ll go back to the East Side and pay an extra buck a gallon for gas there. At least I’ll be able to find a gas station.

Not only are your streets not marked, they are narrow. Narrow, one way and four lanes wide. My mini-van lacks the finesse it takes to drive the streets of Seattle without hoarding 1.25 lanes. I’m pretty sure the honking I’m hearing is not directed at my “Honk if You Love Seattle” bumper sticker. The nicest thing I can say about the traffic lanes? Four linebackers could run up them side by side and not bump into each other. Four line backers that aren’t drunk that is.

Let us now bask in the glory of your freeway on ramps. I have lost count of the on ramps I have found by being lost in Seattle. On ramps that were unmarked (imagine that). My favorite one being the time I was driving downhill (hills in Seattle? No way!), get halfway through an intersection and see a right turn (hidden from the rest of the world by magical bushes) that drops down into some unseen street. But yet it still looked promising, and there was no one in the lane next to me so I yanked the car in that direction. This on ramp seriously looked like an entrance into the vehicle secret garden. At the time I was too glad to be on the freeway to care how spooky it actually looked.

And what, may I ask, is the point of the one way streets? If I wanted an adventure, I’d turn on my nintendo and pop in a game. Not drive to Seattle. A person has to go two blocks out of their way to go around the corner! Again, is there a gas conspiracy I missed the memo on?
It’s no wonder you’re pleasant residents are so in love with their car horns. Your residents communicate with each other using their horns more than their cell phones. I imagine their mechanics are very pleased with that extra little bit of residual income from horn replacements. But who can blame them. If I lived in a city with streets that had the characteristics yours do, I’d be enjoying conversing with my horn too. Beep. Beep.

My last concern is your parking. Or lack of it. Apparently you do not have enough citizens crammed (beep. beep.)onto your 4 lane, narrow, one way streets, you need to build more buildings in place of where parkings lots existed. So not only does one get lost when braving an adventure into your city. One cannot find a spot to park to text nasty messages to her husband, who is in a meeting trying not to get the giggles over the situation, declaring her frustration and exclaiming that Seattle needs a makeover.

In conclusion, I think you can see now why I detest having to make a trip into your blurgeoning city. I understand that you probably have a fancy driver who takes you where ever you want to go. If that is the case, get out of the back seat and drive. After you are frustrated, lost and practically in tears. Give your driver a raise. Then buy some heavy duty explosives. I’m going to go see what I can do about getting all the extra exhaust I was forced to suck in on my most recent trip removed from my body.

Sincerely,
Frustrated, Never will be a Seattle Citizen.

P.S. The Grid System. It’s a good thing!

For these I generally refer them to geocaching.com because they answer those questions way more tactfully than I do! Lol!
So I’ve gone through the “orientation” with him online prior to our meeting. In this orientation he coins my now favorite phrase “Exploration Nerds”. My reply being, come cache with me and see how fun it is. So here we are. The cache is an easy one, on a path by a local library. I explain the machine to him (GC101, hehe), and off we go with the micro’s running ahead yelling stuff about caching back at him.
We arrive close to our destination, the point of gps spazz mode. At least that is what mine does when I get close. The navigational arrow can’t decide which way it wants to point and continuously change direction even while I’m standing still. There is a path off this path that one would not notice if not accustomed to looking for such things. The kids and I charge in, the noobfish peeks in nervously. Our clue was an old stump. And lo and behold, there it is about 4 feet off the main trail on the edge of a ravine.
I turn to my friend and say “Watch this”, (he is still not quite in off the main trail, lol). I walk up to the stump, which is almost as tall as I am, pull back a piece of bark that obviously does not belong with this tree (stiff bark on a western red, hahaha) and pull out the ammo box. I then turn and relish in the look on his face. Just like my kids when we first started caching. I call it the “deer in the cache-lights” look. As the kids are fighting over who gets to open the cache up (they are so anxious to trade crappy little toys, lol), noobfish says “I totally would have never know that was there!”. I then say, well, we wouldn’t want it muggled now would we. Oops, forgot to cover that in GC101, he looks confused. *Explains Muggling*
So we log our presence in the book, tuck all back in and I have noobfish rehide it. He still looks amazed. To this I say, now you have to go buy a gps and start up. To which he totally gets excited and starts talking about friends of his who he thinks do something like this and how he’ll have to hook up with them and do this some more. Ahh the smell of a new cacher. It’s refreshing isn’t it?

Oh the joys of bringing your children caching with you. We park at the suggested coords for the first cache of the day. As I punch in the coords for the actual cache, my younger two are clambering around the back of the mini-van (making it bounce up and down in the process making it not so easy to type in coords) searching for ” trades” since they left theirs at home. My oldest is sighing ever-so dramatically with her best bored face on (eye rolling included).
After those 2 minutes of excitement, everyone falls out of the sliding door into the middle of the street. No one steps on anyone or gets run over so we keep moving. We follow the “treasure finder” down the street to the cache which is in a fellow cachers yard. After looking at the clue (find the green circle) on my print-out, and my kids search every available green circle (including plants taking up a circular space). When we finally happen upon a green plastic round lid looking thing that looks like a city utility thing. The boys push and shove each other trying to get to the cache first. Again, no one maims themselves so we’re good.
It takes 5 minutes to get the cache out and to the nearby bench so we can dig out the log book and sign it. This is where I get to breathe. Once I wrestle the cache away from the kids long enough to nab the log-book, they sit around and ooh and ahh over the TB’s so I can log our find. After I log our find, it’s the struggle to decide which TB to move along and which to leave. Which means deciding between Curious George and Mickey Mouse. They peacefully (for once) decided on Curious George.
So I pack up the cache, the boys have since lost interest and are exploring the area. My daughter replaces it and we walk back to the cache-mobile the youngest falls off the curb and scrapes his knee. The sobbing commences (even though he’s not even bleeding), I quickly squinch them by saying that if he is that hurt then we have to go home and not find anymore cache’s. That makes the well of tears dry up instantly. We load up into the car and move onto the next cache a few blocks away.
This one goes by uneventfully, the kids take 10 minutes to decide what “trades” they want. Then the race back to the car is on, trying to keep them from falling in the pond located between the cache and the car. We tried for a 3rd cache after this, but there were too many muggles around, and the whining had hit the level of me sending everyone to their room so we called it a day.
Nothing like a day of caching with the kids….
